So we're back in the slipstream of life........off the island. What a shock initially, now I have had some time to put it all in perspective I realise that our island life was escapism in the most indulgent way. What a great 3.75 years we shared.. it was always going to come to an end though with kids growing older and secondary school looming. There was always a plan roughly built around 4 years but perhaps it was 'island fever' or a husband with itchy feet..one week we were talking about living in Tuscany for 6 months and then vooom we bought a house in Townsville and I was organising removalists.
We all miss the island but from our new house we can still see it and on those clear, flat days when the water is like glass I can conjour up those many memories we made while we were there. We have decided to put our units on the market too, can't see the sense on holding on to them when we will get buried in mainstream life again 2 jobs, school fees, kids sport etc... just can't juggle all the balls. But we will always have our memories....and it's only 20 minutes on the ferry if we really get homesick.

MyPhone that's what it should be called, I know I'm slow on the uptake but I am guilty of spending more than appropriate time getting intimate with my IPhone (here on referred to as MyPhone..sorry Apple).I love this little thin slip of technology and irony is I find the phone the most frustrating function to use... I love it because I can take ok photos of my kids, have my music with me all the time, surf the web, answer emails when I'm away from the office, play games, navigate my way anywhere....yadda yadda etc etc..
I just love it, and I think my husband may have Myphone envy, I see the way he looks at me (sideways) when I gently bring it out of the backpack when we're sitting on the beach together watching the kids frolic. He's coping quite well I think as there was quite a bit of animosity towards this phone way back in December when I decided it would be my parting gift (to myself) when I finished work. But you know what, now he wants one to!
Go on admit it all you MyPhone owners, we're all guilty of Myphone monopoly.....aren't we!

I am guilty of virtual blogging, yes that's right it's a new term (just made it up) that you use when you blog in your sleep, while you drive your car, make kids lunches etc.. only it's all in your head. I am serious when I say this I have been so busy NOT working (paid that is) that I have only been blogging in this sense. The reno's are done, thankfully - the units look great and are so much easier to clean. Our holiday was a bit of a disaster, well my take on things anyway as I was just too wound up to relax and enjoy it. Though I did have an amazing night when I went off to see Coldplay, even if I did go on my own (story for another time). I must say the highlight of my holiday was returning home to a freshly painted house (farewell mint and lemon colour scheme) and just living quietly.
I am now finally slowing down and enjoying a run or a cycle every day and loving working my way through the recipe books. It was mother's day yesterday and the kids and I made our way to the couch and I was thinking as I opened all the home made gifts and quirky purchases that I wish I could just pause this time right now and soak it up or keep it close so I never forget how lucky I am. The simple things are really the most precious and sitting there looking at my gorgeous children whilst Sam was whipping up a wicked breakfast I couldn't have been happier. All mothers should have this, free time to just sit and admire their flock, it's our god given right :-)

Ok, to be totally honest I haven't had a moment to consider the fact that I am no longer commuting to work each day. We are knee deep in a mucky mud hole surronded by half done walls, concrete paths and kitchens. It's been absolutely manic - great school has gone back this week so I should have more time and sanity for the renos...it's been a very cleansing feeling to go through each room of the house and shred, burn, bin or donate items we know longer need and use. I can see progress is being made, check out our website to see the photos. wwww.brookehavenolidayunits.com/renovations.htm
Forgot to mention we're all off on a holiday in March (post renos fingers crossed!) off to Sydney for a week, will see ColdPlay in concert and then back to Gold Coast for a week before heading home. Kids are excited at the prospect of doing the worlds over, you know Sea World, Dream World etc...
